Functions and Operation of the Built-in Strobe

The camera has a built-in strobe. The strobe features a
large light-emitting plane and the roughness on the
plane disperses the light. As a result, the strobe light is
gentle to the subject. The strobe works according to
the selected flash mode.

Application
This is the default mode of the camera, and is suitable
for outdoor portrait shots. It is not suitable for shots
using an external strobe or indoor shots (except when
the subject is more than 1.8 m away from the lens).
Outline
In this mode, the camera measures the brightness of
the subject immediately before the photograph is taken
(upon focus lock). When the subject is bright enough,
the built-in strobe does not light. The shutter speed is
automatically set to the best value between
1
and
/
. When the subject has a backlight, the strobe
30
may light.
The built-in strobe lights when the shutter speed
determined by the automatic photometry is about
or under. Before the shutter works, the built-in strobe
lights at a moderate level, and the camera detects the
overall lighting conditions. The camera automatically
adjusts the settings to optimal values, including
exposure and white balance, then photographs the
subject.

Manual intervention
The user can manually change the exposure by two
steps towards the under and over sides (±2 EV). The
center value is the optimal exposure calculated
according to the automatic photometry.
For WHITE BALANCE, select one of the following
values: 4000K, 4400K, 4800K, 5200K, 5600K, and
6000K. In AUTO mode, WHITE BALANCE is
automatically set according to the automatic
photometry. The One Push White Balance feature
requires experience and intuition, and is not
recommended for a general user.
For APERTURE, select OPEN, PROG, or CLOSE.
Use PROG whenever possible. In PROG mode, the
camera automatically selects OPEN (F4 to F4.7) or
CLOSE (F11.4 to F13.5) according to the brightness of
the subject.
1 Tips
In this mode, indoor pictures may have unexpected
colors on portions irradiated by external light. This is
because the color temperature of the external light
greatly differs from that of the built-in strobe, which is
about 7000K.
