Split Function
Parameter Values Recommended
in Each SPLIT Mode
The parameters that affect picture quality include
resolution, sharpness, color, and contrast.
The parameter values recommended in each SPLIT
mode are given below.
Resolution of camera and number of split
sections
The camera provides two resolution modes: VGA (640
× 480) and SXGA (1280 × 960).
VGA pictures
Basically, use a VGA (S mode) picture in four-split or
smaller sizes.
A VGA picture does not have enough information for
two- or no-split printing. The print results lack
sufficient resolution.
SXGA pictures
To print a picture in two- or no-split sizes, use the
SXGA mode (Hi-1 or Hi-2 mode).
The SXGA pictures may be used for four-split or
smaller printing. However, in those small printouts,
there is no difference in print quality between VGA
and SXGA.
SHARPNESS of station and number of
split sections
SHARPNESS is controlled via the menu screen of the
station. The SHARPNESS function emphasizes the
edges of a picture; it does not increase the resolution.
This function merely changes the sharpness of the
pictures as seen by human eyes.
SHARPNESS is used as a parameter for manipulating
the picture quality. Sharpness that is too high hampers
the naturalness of the picture. Basically, the default
value of LOW is recommended. For large pictures,
however, MIDDLE improves the at-a-glance picture
quality.

Contrast
Besides SHARPNESS, increasing contrast, or the clear
difference between light and shade, makes a picture
look sharper. To control contrast, the station menu
provides DARK and LIGHT.
Shift DARK and LIGHT towards the + side to increase
contrast and give the picture a hard impression.
Remember to keep the contrast appropriate. Going too
far on the + side causes saturation of black and white
and results in loss of information. The recommended
value is +2 or +3.
