The front panel display indicates when the instrument is operating as a solar array simulator, in either
Curve or Table modes. The settings shown on the display are the true Vmp and Imp values. These
values are calculated based on the running curve parameters or table points.
Programming the Curve Parameters
In Curve mode, the output has an I-V characteristic that follows a mathematical model of a solar array.
You must first specify the set of equations on which the curve is based - either space or terrestrial.
Refer to
SAS
Equations, where the model equations are listed.
Front Panel Menu Reference
Select Output\SAS\Curve\Shape.
Specify either Space or Terrestrial.
To activate the shape, select Set Curve in the
Curve\Settings dialog (see below).
After specifying the shape, you must specify I-V characteristic of the curve using the four parameters:
Imp, Isc, Vmp, and Voc. These can be programmed individually, but when programming a new curve, it
is best to send all of the curve parameters on the same line. this method effects an instant curve
change.
The curve parameters can be entered in any order - the instrument determines if all parameters are
within acceptable limits. Any parameter not programmed retains the value of the previously
programmed curve.
Front Panel Menu Reference
Select Output\SAS\Curve\Settings.
In the dialog, enter a value for each of the
four I-V curve parameters. Then press Set
Curve.
If the curve parameters are sent individually, an error can occur if the parameter value is outside
l
the allowable curve characteristic determined by the three existing parameters. Additionally, it
may take up to four curve changes to obtain the final curve.
Programming the Table Parameters
In this mode, a table of I-V points specifies the curve. A table can be programmed with a maximum of
1024 I-V points per table. Table values are not saved as part of the instrument state. You can load up
to two tables into instrument memory. The table lists must satisfy the following requirements.
