WARNING
Danger of personal injury due to incorrect instruction. This operating manual is not a substi-
tute for the safety manual. It is assumed that the safety manual has been read and under-
stood.
Refer to the engine operating manual.
If the 'pressure low' indicator lamp 22 on the instrument panel lights, switch off the engine.
Remove the front grille and radiator grille. Dismantle the cover on the bumper, lift it off to the
right (looking in the direction of travel) and take off the filter cover. Pull out the filter cartridge.
Clean the filter cartridge carefully by blowing it out from the inside. Take care not to damage
the cartridge by using excessive air pressure. Replace the filter cartridge every 400 hours;
replace damaged filter cartridges immediately.
Reassemble the filter in the reverse order.
The radiator fins and the grille in front of the radiator must always be kept clean, so that the
flow of cooling air through the radiator is not obstructed.
The cooling system fitted in the TP48 includes a compensation reservoir. When the engine
is cold the compensation reservoir must be full up to the level mark. The cooling system must
be topped up with anti-freeze mixture (-25º C to -30º C) whenever necessary throughout the
year, i.e. both winter and summer. Every autumn the frost protection provided (-25º C to
-30º C) must be checked.
Drain off the coolant mixture at the bottom of the radiator (on the left, in the direction of travel).
Flush the radiator and engine block with water. Refill with frost-resistant mixture (-25°C to
-30°C) from a reputable manufacturer. Capacity: approximately 12 l.
The drive-belts are correctly tensioned when they can be pushed down through a distance
equal to the drive-belt thickness. The diesel engine operating manual describes how the
drive-belts can be tensioned.
The ideal play at the clutch pedal 6 is 20 mm.
The adjuster is at the left-hand side of the clutch housing.
The ideal play at the hand lever 14 is 20-30 mm.
The adjuster is at the right-hand side of the clutch housing.
The plates must be completely covered with acid. If they are not, fill the battery with distilled
water. When the vehicle is not in operation, the battery should be recharged every 4 to 6
weeks. Once a year the battery should be dismantled (disconnect the negative pole first) and
the outer housing should be cleaned with cold water and a brush. The terminals and terminal
clamps should be coated with an acid-free grease (such as Vaseline or milkfat). Make sure
the cover is properly positioned on the battery and fastened.
NOTE
During operation the alternator must always remain connected to the battery. Therefore nei-
ther a generator cable nor a battery terminal may be disconnected while the engine is run-
ning. Only charge the battery with a fast battery charger if at least the negative terminal has
been slackened and disconnected.
Check the level of the brake fluid in the compensation reservoir in accordance with the main-
tenance chart and if necessary top up with brake fluid according to the specification (DOT 4
or higher).
CAUTION
Drive brakes dry after washing.
Risk of corrosion of the electric installation when washing.
