Operating failures and their causes
Failure
Winch does not operate
Load does not stop when
motor is switches off
Winch will not lift load, is
overheating, and / or does
not lift at rated speed.
Winch raises but will not
lower.
Winch lowers but will not
raise
Oil leak
Disposal:
After having placed out of service, the parts of the hand winch have to be recycled or
disposed according to legal regulations !

Cause
No power to winch motor
Motor is connect wrong
Fuse is effective
Incorrect voltage or frequency
Contactor failure
Winch is overloaded
Motor is burned out.
Brake does not open
Defective transformer
Motor brake is worn out
Brake is incorrectly electrically con-
nected
Winch is overloaded.
Rotor is dragging in stator.
Voltage to low.
"Down" or "Up" circuit is open.
Fault in the control circuit
Improper oil plug.
Oil plug is loosened.
No oil plug gasket.
Oil ventilation plug at wrong place
(overhead situated).
If leak occurs at places other than oil
plug.

Elimination
Check connections, plugs, cables and
fuses
Check terminals and if necessary change
phasing of hoist.
Insert new fuse, press button.
Compare voltage and frequency rating on
winch name plate with power supply
Check for voltage drop at winch power
supply connection while winch is operated
under load.
Check contactor for wear and burn marks,
if necessary replace
check suspended load. reduce the load
(unlock overload protection switch)
Replace motor.
Check electricity supply
Check transformer, if necessary replace.
Send wire rope winch in for inspection
(see page 33)
Check electrical connection and change it
Reduce load to rated capacity.
Check for wear motor bearings.
Check voltage at winch power source con-
nections with winch under load.
Check circuit for loose connections.
Check limit switch for correct adjustment
Have the fault eliminated by a competent
person
Install proper oil plug with gasket.
Tighten plug.
Put in new gasket.
Replace oil ventilation plug with oil filling
plug.
Check for loose bolts in gearing and
tighten.
Check other sealing in gear box and re-
place if necessary.
