On safety
For the control this means that
 switch on commands that produce dangerous states are only
allowed to become effective when the protective devices are in the
protective position
and
 dangerous states must be terminated before the protective
position is left.
Prior to the use of the safety system, a risk assessment must be
performed on the machine in accordance with:
 EN 954-1, Safety of machinery. Safety-related parts of control
systems, Annex C
 EN 1050, Safety of machinery, principles of risk assessment
 EN 292, Safety of machinery, principles of risk assessment, basic
concepts
Correct use includes observance of the applicable requirements on
installation and operation, in particular
 EN 1088, Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices associated with
guards. Principle for design and selection
 EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery. Electrical equipment of
machines. General requirements
 EN 60947-5-3, Specification for low-voltage switchgear and
controlgear — Control circuit devices and switching elements.
Requirements for proximity devices with defined behaviour and
fault conditions (PDF)
 EN 60947-5-1, Specification for low voltage switchgear and
controlgear; Control circuit devices and switching elements.
Electromechanical control circuit devices
 EN 61000-6-2, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Generic
standards. Immunity standard for industrial environments
The safety system RE 4000 must be regularly subjected to a technical
inspection as per chapter 4.3.

Correct use

The safety system RE 4000 must be used only as defined in
chapter 1.2 "Applications of the safety system". It must be used only
by qualified personnel and only on the machine where it has been
installed and initialised by qualified personnel in accordance with
these operating instructions. The sensors and the evaluation unit are
only allowed to be used together.
All warranty claims against SICK AG are forfeited in the case of any
other use, or alterations being made to devices, even as part of their
mounting or installation.
