Cap-shaping
Where the "AC welding process with activated cap-shaping function" has been selected,
(MagicWave)
automatic cap-shaping is available on the MagicWave power sources. This function
takes account of the pre-set electrode diameter in order to achieve the best results.

If the tungsten electrode already has a large enough cap, use "AC welding (without cap-
shaping)".
The cap-shaping function can also be activated by pushing the torch trigger forward.
Precondition: TIG-AC welding must have been selected.

panel".
Select the desired parameters with the parameter selection buttons, and alter them with
the adjusting dial.
Important! All parameter command values that have been set by means of the adjusting
dial will remain stored until the next time they are changed. This is true even if the power
source is switched off and on again in the meantime.

Important! The test gas flow lasts a maximum of 30 seconds. Press the button again to
stop the test gas flow before the 30 seconds are up.
Purging of shiel-
Important! Purging with shielding gas is necessary if condensation forms when the
ding gas
device is left unused in a cold environment for a prolonged period. Long hosepacks are
most affected. See section: The set-up menu - section: Shielding gas set-up parameters.
For an optimised ignition sequence when the TIG-AC welding process has been se-

lected, the MagicWave power sources take account of the diameter of the electrode.
general remarks
They also take account of the electrode's actual temperature, calculated with reference
to the preceding welding and weld-off times.

Cap-shaping
Note! The "AC welding process with activated cap-shaping function" is not
necessary if there is already a sufficiently large cap at the tip of the electrode.

The automatic cap-shaping function
ensures that the optimum electrode tip
shape is formed automatically during the
welding start-up. A separate cap-shaping
operation on a test piece is no longer
necessary.
Important! No further cap-shaping is
needed at the next welding start-up. After
the cap-shaping function has been perfor-
med once, it is deactivated for every
subsequent welding start-up.
