The Straub Mechanical Thrombectomy System is the combination of the Straub Medical Drive System with the Straub rotational catheter from

the Rotarex S and Aspirex
rotational catheters from the Straub Medical portfolio. For setting up and operating the Straub Medical Drive System, follow the operating
instructions in the corresponding manual.
Power transmission between the Straub Medical Drive System and the rotational catheters functions via a magnetic clutch. This non-contact
power transmission to the rotational catheter makes it possible to cover the non-sterile motor fully with one of the sterile drapes included in the
catheter set and to connect the sterile-covered motor to the sterile rotational catheter. This allows sterile working without the need to sterilize the
motor itself.
General mode of operation of Straub rotational catheters
A steel helix, which has a co-axial, central lumen for the guidewire, rotates inside the single-lumen rotational catheters from the Aspirex
®
Rotarex S family. The Straub Medical Drive System and a gearbox in the catheter housing automatically generate the revolution speed
appropriate to the particular catheter, ranging between 40,000 and 60,000 r.p.m. depending on the model. The rotating helix guarantees several
functions of the catheter: it drives the functions of the catheter head, produces a strong negative pressure and acts as the conveyor screw for the
material to be transported into the collecting bag. The negative pressure produced is strong enough to aspirate all the fragments of occlusion
material reliably into the catheter. The blood that is aspirated along with the fragments helps to cool the rotational catheter. Despite the strong
