Tracheostomy Tube XLT with Cuff during insertion and while in place will facilitate
proper function and minimize tears and breaks in the cuff. Avoid pulling or
manipulation of the inflation line, as it is designed to conduct and hold air as part
of the cuff inflation system. It is recommended that the inflation line be maintained
in a position allowing for patient mobility, without placing tension on the line-to-
outer cannula junction. Prevent lint or other particulates from entering the luer
valve of the pilot balloon.
• Use the TTH Tracheostomy Tube Holder in supervised care settings only. Pediatrics,
confused patients and other individuals who require special care should be
monitored to prevent unintentional detachment.
NOTE: Shiley™ Tracheostomy Tube XLT, Shiley Inner Cannula XLT, Shiley TTH
Tracheostomy Tube Holder and Accessory Products are composed of medical grade
materials which do not contain latex.
Contents of Packages - Refer to Table 1.
Description - Refer to Table 2 and 3 for Sizing Dimensions.
NOTE: The sizing dimensions refer to the I.D. as the inside diameter of the inner
cannula at the smallest location. O.D. is the outside diameter of the outer cannula (not
including cuff features). Length is the distance from the patient's side of the neck plate
to the distal tip on the tube's centerline.
The Shiley Tracheostomy Tubes XLT are biocompatible, double cannula tracheostomy
tubes with disposable Inner Cannulae. The outer cannula is constructed of
thermosensitive polyvinyl chloride with a radiopaque line to assist in radiographic
visualization. A soft swivel neck plate allows conformity to individual neck anatomies.
The Shiley Inner Cannula XLT with 15 mm connector, is translucent for easy inspection
and can be used for mechanical ventilation with standard respiratory equipment. The
smooth, rounded tip obturator facilitates insertion. The Shiley Tracheostomy Tubes
XLT are available in four sizes: 5.0mm, 6.0mm, 7.0mm, and 8.0mm I.D. Additional Shiley
Inner Cannula XLT in the same sizes are available separately in a 10 pack carton.
The cuffed Shiley Tracheostomy Tube XLT has a thin wall, high volume, low pressure
cuff to minimize pressure in the trachea. When inflated, the cuff conforms to the
natural shape of the trachea, providing a seal at low intracuff pressure. The cuff
inflation line has a luer valve with an integral pilot balloon to indicate cuff inflation.
The Shiley TTH Tracheostomy Tube Holder is a comfortable two piece, one size fits all,
holder used to secure all tracheostomy tubes. Made of soft breathable cotton lined
foam laminated with Velcro® fasteners.

Patients in the home care environment should be carefully instructed by a Home
Health Care Provider in the proper use and handling of this device.
Pre-Insertion Cuff and Inflation Test
NOTE: Refer to (Table 2) for Leak Test Inflation Volumes. Inflation volumes are for test
purposes only. Consult the physician or Home Health Care Provider for the appropriate
inflation volume/pressure when the tube is positioned within the trachea.
