e) Motor attachment and motor
The electric motor is fastened to the motor attachment with two M3x12mm screws. The pinion gear is then generally
affixed with a grub screw. A side of the motor shaft is flattened so that the cog can not turn incorrectly.
Attach the motor attachment to the chassis which requires three countersunk M3x8mm screws.
The figure on the right shows the motor attachment without the motor.
The exact alignment of the motor on the motor attachment (cog clearance) and the position of
the pinion gear on the driveshaft should be carried out after the mounting of the two differentials
(chapter 7. f and g).
The motor pinion gear must completely cover the main cog, it must not sit too far backwards or
forwards on the motor shaft.
The distance between the pinion gear and the main cog must be set as small as possible later.
Both cogs must not however be too tight! This leads to increased wearing of the main cog and
there is also loss of performance (the motor already requires a lot of energy to turn the main
cog).
If the clearance between the main pinion and main cog is too large, the teeth of the main cog will
be worn/torn off after a very short period of driving!
