2.2.13 Chiller function
Additional chiller function can be offered with the unit as an option, either for an air conditioning loop at the intermediate stage (MP),
or to supply brine at the main stage (MT).
2.2.13.1 Chiller at the intermediate stage (MP)
An additional heat exchanger is positioned at the outlet of the HP expansion, resulting in an evaporating temperature close to 0°C in
that heat exchanger. This temperature depending on the actual receiver pressure, it is highly recommended to protect the water loop
with glycol to avoid any risk of freezing.
This function can be combined with the parallel compression function to reach higher energy efficiency of the system in air conditioning
mode. The control of this function must be done on the water side (for example using a mixing 3-way valve) and not on the CO2 side.
This control on the water side must especially consider the requirement to decrease the water loop temperature avoiding any risk of
pressure relief valve blow-off on the CO2 side.
An electronic flow
controller must be mounted on the water loop (not supplied by PROFROID).
The below schematics shows the example of a chiller function for air conditioning.
