Installing the Master Clamping Assemblies to the Carriages
In line with your order, the butt-welding system was shipped with
master clamps made of either steel or cast aluminum. The master
clamps are also the supports into which the reducer inserts will be in-
stalled, if needed, that allow clamping components with
an outside diameter smaller than the maximum size of
the welding system. The master clamps you ordered will
be installed when the system is delivered to you.
For the welding system, the kind of master clamps you
did not order are optionally available. This section, there-
fore, explains the differences between cast-aluminum and
steel clamps and their respective installation. In order to
replace the ones with the others, first perform in reverse
order the installation steps described below, to remove
the installed master clamping assemblies.
Cast-aluminum master clamps are wider, towards the
outside at the rear. Specific versions of the the cast-alumi-
num master clamps are available optionally which enable
the production of tees, Y branch-offs and crosspieces
with several welding operations. Segmented bends can
be produced using the standard master clamps set on the
carriages of the machine at the desired angle of the joint.
Steel master clamps are designed rather as a disk and
do not get wider. Along with the standard reducers, spe-
cial reducer inserts are available for them that enable
a slightly diagonal position of the clamped component
relative to the welding axis rather than its position per-
pendicular to the axis. This allows the manufacture of
segmented bends with a radius shorter than
usual, i. e., "acute-angled" elbows.
The carriages of the machine are designed for the use of steel master
clamping assemblies. They feature the angle charts and the arrange-
ment of threaded holes for the fastening bolts that are used for the
correct installation of these master clamping assemblies. If the machine
is meant to be used with cast-aluminum master clamps, an additional
base plate has to be installed on both carriages. This base plate fea-
tures the angle charts and the hole arrangement for fastening bolts
which have to be used for the proper installation of this kind of master
clamping assemblies.
In the case of the order of a workshop welding system with cast-alu-
minum master clamps only, the base plates and the clamps will already
have been installed when the system is delivered. Remove them if the
system is meant to be used with steel master clamps added to such a
system as an option.
3.4.1 Installing the Steel Master Clamps
Start the installation process only if the site where the ma-
chine is located meets the requirements per Sect. 2.6 above.
Use appropriate lifting tools to perform the installation.
Caution
On both carriages of the machine, slide the brass bolts into the cen-
ters of rotation and install the clamps on them. To fasten them, use
the four provided bolts for each carriage (see figure below). For the
manufacture of segmented bends, turn the master clamps around the
center of rotation to align them with the desired angle in the chart.
