NOTE:
9 There is no need to select shims when
reassembling with the original case and
inner parts.
9 Shim calculations are required when
reassembling with the original inner parts
and a new case (the difference between
the original inner parts and the new case).
9 Measurements and adjustments are
required when replacing an inner part(s).

SHIM SELECTION

Pinion gear shim
1. Measure:
9 Pinion gear clearance (with a thick-
ness gauge)
Out of specification → Adjust.
Specified clearance a:
3.5 mm ~ 3.7 mm (0.14 ~ 0.15 in)
Measurement steps:
8 Install the pinion height gauge 1
onto the gear case, not onto the
tapered roller bearing.
8 Install the drive shaft components
and tighten the pinion gear nut.
Pinion gear nut:
25 Nm (2.5 m•kg, 18 ft•lb)
8 Attach the pinion height gauge 1
onto the other pinion height gauge 2
as shown.
Pinion height gauge:
YB-34232-1 1
YB-34232-2 2
Driver rod:
YB-06229 3
8 Measure the clearance a with a
thickness gauge and determine the
proper shim to use.
Less than
Use a 1.13 mm shim
3.5 mm
More than
Use a 1.20 mm shim
3.7 mm
