This wear causes the formation of play between the closure mechanism (2c, 7, 11b)
and the semi-trailer articulation kingpin.
The fifth wheel allows recovery of play via the manual adjustment of the closure
mechanism
(2c, 7, 11b).
Before adjustment, it is however important to check the status of wear of
the articulation kingpin.
The limits of wear are given in the figure on page 21/35.
Do not perform adjustment if the wear of the afore-mentioned
kingpin exceeds the limits. In these cases, it is necessary to replace the
semi-trailer articulation kingpin (see use and maintenance book supplied
with the semi-trailer).
5.1
RECOVERY OF PLAY
1)
Couple the semi-trailer to the tractor see chap 3.1 COUPLING page 12/35;
2)
Position the tractor on a level surface
3)
Block the wheels of the semi-trailer, and then reverse the tractor slightly;
4)
Loosen the counter-nut (1b);
5)
Loosen the adjusting screw (1a) by ten turns and however until there is no longer
contact with the wall of the fifth wheel plate;
