8. TRAVELING WITH THE ZEN O™ POC BY AIR
8.1. PASSENGER PRE FLIGHT PREPARATION
8.1.1. Required Labeling
Your Zen-O™ POC is suitable for aircraft use and has met all acceptance criteria of the
United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is verifi ed by the statement on
the back of the POC that states, in red text, "The manufacturer of this POC has deter-
mined this device conforms to all applicable FAA acceptance criteria for POC carriage
EN
and use on board aircraft". Prior to the fl ight, you may be asked to show this text on the
POC to the fl ight attendant.
Healthcare Provider Consultation
8.1.2.
The FAA does not require a passenger to consult with a healthcare provider prior to
using a Zen-O™ POC on board an aircraft. However, you, together with your healthcare
provider, may wish to discuss the following:
• The e ects of a pressurised cabin (cabin pressure altitude can reach 8,000 feet) on
your oxygen needs.
- Some Zen-O™ POC users need higher litre fl ow or litre per minute (LPM) setting for the
Zen-O™ POC in the air because of cabin pressure altitude.
- Some Zen-O™ POC users who use a Zen-O™ POC occasionally on the ground may
need to use their Zen-O™ POC for the entire fl ight because of cabin pressure altitude.
• Your oxygen needs at the time of travel and whether your needs have changed since
the Zen-O™ POC was fi rst prescribed or during the most recent consultation with a
healthcare professional.
• Certain button provisions in the Zen-O™ POC operating manual regarding oxygen deliv-
ery, indicators, warnings, and alerts, as well as setting/changing litre fl ow or LPM.
• All crewmembers (pilots and fl ight attendants (F/A)) receive training regarding the han-
dling of in-fl ight medical events. However, the FAA does not require that air carriers or
crewmembers provide medical assistance to passengers.
IMPORTANT: Additional information regarding passenger health and safety can be found at
http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fl y_safe/health/comprehensive/.
8.1.3. Determine a Su cient Number of Batteries
You are responsible for bringing a su cient number of batteries to power the Zen-O™
POC for the duration of the expected use of your Zen-O™ POC. You should consider at
least the following in determining a su cient number of batteries:
• Healthcare professional advice regarding duration of Zen-O™ POC use.
• Air carrier information regarding duration of the expected fl ight as well as any layovers
and unanticipated delays.
