PDX Home Run Cable Grounding and Shielding

Ground and shield terminations are a critical part of the system's immunity to noise and electrical
surges. The following procedures describe proper cabling methods for the harsh and panel
enclosures, respectively.
2.7.4.3.1. Cable Preparation, Both Enclosure Types
1. Use metal shears to cut back the braided outer metal sheath, about 8" from the end, then trim
2. Push the sheath about 5" back down the cable, so that it compresses as shown in Figure
3. Push the sheath down over the tape to create a neat edge.
2.7.4.3.2. Cable Installation, Harsh Enclosure
1. Pass the cable through the body of the gland, and slide the gland down to meet the sheath. If

the cut edge of the sheath to make a neat edge. Take care not to cut the external drain wire
when trimming the sheath.
