4.1

GENERAL INSTALLATION NOTES

The electronic level switch HNS 3000 can be mounted directly inside the tank cover by
means of a G3/4 A DIN 3852 (male) thread connection.
To ensure optimum positioning, the unit can be rotated 340° about its long axis, and the
display and keypad can be rotated through 270°.
The electrical connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician according to the
relevant regulations of the country concerned (VDE 0100 in Germany). The level switch
housing must be earthed correctly at the same time. If mounted inside a tank, the housing
must be earthed separately (e.g. with a screened cable).
For simple and reliable installation, we recommend using HYDAC ELECTRONIC's
mounting accessories (see Section 15 Accessories).
To ensure safe operation of the HNS 3000 the following conditions must be met:
• The active part of the probe must protrude into the tank and be clear of the tank
walls.
• When installing inside of small plastic tanks, the unit should be installed as near as
possible to the centre of the tank.
• When installing inside of metallic rising pipes (e.g. mounted on the side of the tank) the
sensor should be mounted in the centre of the tube. We recommend an internal tube
diameter of ≥ 60 mm.
• When mounting inside of tanks, the distance between the float and the walls of the
tank should be at least 20 mm.
• To guarantee proper functioning, ensure that the float can move freely over the whole
measuring area.
• The density of the float (standard 0.6 kg/dm³) must be lower than the density of the
fluid.
