Regular tests of the safety functions must be performed during operation. These so-called proof tests must be performed as
end-to-end tests and include all components of the safety function. These include electronic, mechanical, hydraulic,
pneumatic and other components, if they are part of the safety function.

Due to their internal electronic design, the fail-safe components of the automation system have a proof test interval that
is equal to the overall service life. Even if these components of the safety function do not require a proof test, the safety
function as a whole nevertheless requires regular tests to detect faults before they pose a hazard.
• Ensure that all necessary tests are performed. The tests must be documented to allow all tests including the initial test
and any changes to be traced.
6.2 Maintenance, repair and replacement
The products are maintenance-free.

Repairs
Repairs may only be carried out by Siemens. Replace defective products or send them to Siemens for repair. Your local
Siemens contact will be happy to help you.
At the end of their service life, the products must be replaced with new ones. Information on the service life (MTBF) can be
found in our online information system "SiePortal" under the keyword "MTBF" or under:

Do not install any products with visible external damage and replace them if necessary. If necessary, use gloves to protect
yourself from cuts.
WARNING
Electric shock
Basic protection no longer exists if there is external damage to the product. Ensure the de-energized state before
performing mounting and removal work.

Destruction of the product
Electrostatic discharges or excessive moisture can destroy the product.
If you want to clean the product, use slightly damp cloths or a dry, ESD cloth.
Do not use any liquids or solvents.

Explosion hazard
In Ex applications, the following applies:
In Ex applications, static discharge can lead to sparking and therefore poses a risk of explosion.
Ensure that no explosive atmosphere can be present for the duration of the cleaning work. The use of ESD-suitable
equipment, measures or an ESD-suitable cloth alone is not sufficient.
