WARNING
Explosion hazard
Potentially explosive atmospheres are associated with the risk of serious personal injury or damage to equipment if these
areas are not handled properly. This applies to all phases of the product life cycle, from planning, installation,
commissioning, operation, maintenance and modifications through to complete decommissioning and disposal.
Make sure that planning and execution are only carried out by persons who are qualified to do so. The recognized rules for
explosion protection, the relevant international and national regulations and standards as well as the conditions in the
system on site must be observed.
Functional safety
As part of functional safety management, a concept is drawn up for the system on site, which identifies the automation
functions and circuits on which the safety and health of people may depend and which must be implemented accordingly
with safety-related systems (fail-safe protection systems). The Safety Integrity Level (SIL) defines the reliability and functional
safety requirements for these systems and functions.
Note
When planning your automation system, make sure that you have the binding definitions of the safety-related functions and
their requirements for reliability and functional safety (SIL). This is the only way to select the right products, determine a
suitable structure and prevent serious damage.
The following products are suitable for functional safety applications:
Product
SIMATIC ET 200SP HA, analog input module, safety-oriented, F-AI 8xI 2-/4-wire HART HA
SIMATIC ET 200SP HA, digital output module, safety-oriented F-DQ 10X24VDC/2A HA
SIMATIC ET 200SP HA, digital input module, safety-oriented F-DI 16X24VDC HA
The manuals of the respective products contain information on functional safety. You can find these in our online
information system "SiePortal":

WARNING
Dangerous malfunction
There is a risk of serious personal injury or system damage associated with safety-related functions if they are not handled
correctly. This applies to all phases of the product life cycle from planning to installation, commissioning, operation,
maintenance, modifications and complete decommissioning.
Make sure that planning and execution are only carried out by persons who are qualified to do so. The recognized rules of
functional safety, relevant international and national regulations and standards for functional safety as well as the
conditions of the system on site must be observed. Observe the information on the nameplate and in the documentation.
