Note
In Ex applications, the following applies:
An ignition source can arise from compensation currents:
Only earth shielded cables that pass through potentially explosive atmospheres at one end and insulate the shield at the
other end appropriately.
If both ends are grounded, install an equipotential bonding conductor

Functional grounding
For reasons of electromagnetic compatibility, you must ensure that the following components are connected to functional
grounding:
Mounting rail
Shields of the communication cables
Depending on the planned plant-specific grounding concept, the shields of the process cables must be connected to
functional grounding at one or both ends.
The following applies to the mounting rail:
The grounding of the mounting rail must meet the requirements for functional grounding FE. The mounting rail may
additionally be connected to a protective conductor, depending on the planned plant-specific grounding concept.
Recommendation:
For an interference-free configuration, the cable for the functional grounding should have a cross-section > 6 mm
The following applies to the shields of the communication cables (PROFINET cables):
The shields are connected in the plug-in connector at both ends.
The following applies to the shields of the process cables:
You can use the shield connection for this:
Definition
You need the shield connection for connecting cable shields (e.g. for analog modules). It enables the connection of the shield
of process cables to the functional grounding FE. This requires the mounting rail of the I/O station to be connected to the
functional grounding FE. The shield connection is not required on entry of the cable into the control cabinet.
Description
You attach the shield connection to the terminal block. It consists of a shield support and a shield connection clamp. After
mounting, the shield connection is automatically connected to the functional grounding FE of the mounting rail. The shield
connection has the following design:
The following applies to the D-SUB terminal block:
The connection of a suitable D-SUB connector to this terminal block enables connection of the shielding of the process cables
to the mounting rail. Use of this feature is dependent on the plant-specific grounding concept.
Note
Differences from the terminal block with D-SUB connector
The shield of the D-SUB connector on the terminal block is connected to the voltage bus (M of the respective potential
group). If the connector on the cable has a suitable shield support and the shield has been connected at the connector, a
conductive connection is established when the connector is fitted.
