Self-sealing, mylar-reinforced capillary tubes, order no. 1071


Fill the capillary tube.

Let the column of blood settle in the direction of the seal.
The blood must touch the seal!
The seal will only become impermeable when it comes into contact with blood.

Tap the seal end of the capillary three times on the laboratory table!
This serves to intensify the contact with the seal material and to enhance the sealing process. Only in this
manner the capillaries will be sealed off!

Determining the centrifugation time

To determine the centrifugation time, the following approximation formula applies:
100000
= centrifugation time in minutes
RCF
RCF = Relative centrifugal acceleration
To calculate the RCF, see the chapter "Relative centrifugal acceleration (RCF)".
Example:
RCF = 16060
100000
= 6.23 minutes = 6 minutes and 14 seconds
16060
For a RCF of 16060, the centrifugation time is 6 minutes and 14 seconds.

Reading off the hematocrit value

The hematocrit value is read off as follows:

Hold onto the rotor.

Turn the evaluation disk (rotor cover) until the 100% line of the evaluation disk is aligned with the top edge of the
fluid column in the capillary tube.

Read off the hematocrit value at the top edge of the erythrocyte column.
Repeat this procedure until all capillary tubes have been evaluated.
