5. Initial start-up
See also initial start-up in accordance with IEC
60079-14, «Electrical installation design, selec-
tion and installation of equipment, including initial
inspection», Clause 9.
Before the trace heating system is put into oper-
ation, an initial inspection shall be carried out.
This includes the completeness of the protective
measures taken and their effectiveness. The
results of the initial start-up shall be recorded.
6. Inspection, servicing and
maintenance
When carrying out inspections, servicing or
maintenance work, the valid provisions of
IEC 60079-17 «Inspection and maintenance
of electrical installations in potentially explo-
sive atmospheres», shall be observed. Dur-
ing inspections and servicing, it is particular-
ly important to check those components
upon which the type of protection depends.
Only original spare parts from the manufac-
turer may be used.
6.1 Qualifications
The inspection, servicing and maintenance of
the systems may only be carried out by experi-
enced personnel that has also been instructed in
the various types of explosion protection, instal-
lation processes, the relevant rules and regula-
tions and the general principles of hazardous
zone classification during training. An appropri-
ate ongoing training or instruction shall be car-
ried out by the personnel on a regular basis.
6.2 Renewed start-up
Before putting the explosionproof trace heating
system back into service, it is necessary to check
that the protective measures taken are effective.
If any faults are found at the terminal box, cables
or their entries, the explosionproof trace heating
systemss must no longer be used.
