Cable entries
Only cable glands or blanking plugs for which an
EU Type Examination Certificate (according to
Category 2G and 2D) has been issued by a rec-
ognized European notified body in accord-ance
with the standards IEC 60079-0 and IEC 60079-
7 or IEC 60079-31 may be used for explosion-
proof trace heating systems.
Additional cable glands may only be used in pre-
fabricated holes that are fitted with blanking
plugs.
The cable glands shall be mounted in such a
way that a self-loosening is prevented and a per-
manent sealing of the cable entry points is
ensured.
The clearances between the cable glands are
sized in such a way that a torque spanner can be
used to tighten both the cable glands in the
enclosure wall and the cable.
The trace heating systemss are fitted with cable
glands in the factory (see annex B). If other cable
glands are fitted, the torques and the associated
cable diameters can be found in the correspond-
ing instruction manual of the respective manu-
facturer.
It is necessary to ensure the tightness of the
cable glands in the long term, whereby the cable
is fed into the cable gland in a straight line. This
can be achieved by fixing the straight cable with-
in 30 cm or by using a cable gland with a strain
relief.
Intrinsically safe circuits shall be fed in and out
via separate cable glands that are specially
marked (e.g. with light blue colour).
If cable glands are omitted or not used, the holes
shall be sealed with blanking plugs and unused
cable glands shall be sealed with the associated
sealing plugs.
