Operation of the air volume controller
Fig. 2.1 - Air volume controller
The air volume controller is preferably extended with two silencers, which are connected to each VM. The
volumetric flow control system can be controlled via various optional control components, including:
1. Zehnder CO2 Sensor type 0-10V;
2. Zehnder CO2 Sensor type RF;
3. Zehnder ComfoSwitch;
4. Pulse Switch / Bathroom Switch;
5. Zehnder Timer RF;
6. Zehnder RFZ;
7. 0-10V controlling component.
Not all control components are available in all Zehnder countries.
The RF control components only work together with a CM-connect.

The air volume controller is a combined supply and
extraction air system for air exchange within individual
houses (apartments/studio flats) in multi-storey
buildings. The supply air volume and the extraction air
volume are intelligently and individually regulated. The
system uses an air handling unit (AHU) located
centrally in the building for air supply and air
extraction.
In each individual house, there are two valve modules
(Valve Modules, VMs) and one control module (Control
Module, CM). One VM takes care of the air supply and
one VM takes care of the air extraction. The
combination of the two VMs with the CM together form
the Zehnder ComfoVar Aero system. In the rest of this
manual, we will call this system the air volume
controller.
The CM is available in two versions. There is a CM-
basic that can only communicate with two VMs. There
is also a CM-connect and it can also communicate with
other CM-connects. The Modbus RTU protocol is used
for this communication.
