Safety Notes
Safety officer
The institution operating the instrument and the safety officer are
responsible for implementing all safety measures, such that the patient,
the attending physician and any persons present during laser treatment
are not exposed to any danger. In Germany BGV B2 must be observed.
In other countries, the relevant national regulations must be observed.
The responsibilities of the safety officer, who is to be appointed in
writing by the institution operating the laser, include:
Implementation of safety measures.
Instruction of all persons working with the instrument in safety
measures and correct operation of the instrument.
Marking the laser hazard area.
Checking the warning signs and equipment.
Correct therapeutic use of the instrument.
Safekeeping of the key switch key.
Safekeeping of the laser device.
Proper reconnection of the device after relocation.
Correct keeping of the instrument logbook.
Laser safety goggles
All persons present in the laser hazard area during laser operation
must wear laser safety goggles. The patient's eye which is not being
treated must also be properly protected.
Exception:
The physician need not wear safety goggles when observing the
area to be treated through the Carl Zeiss Meditec laser slit lamp.
The institution operating the instrument is responsible for providing
proper laser safety goggles. The safety goggles must be approved
for the wavelength of the laser and for the type and intensity of the
laser radiation (in Europe, in compliance with DIN EN 207).
