Safety Notes
When operating the instrument, always
Use the lowest possible energy necessary to achieve the desired
physiological effect.
Before each treatment, check that the focus shift control has been
set to the proper position (see Focus shift and defocusing, p. 56).
Focus the aiming beam as carefully as possible onto the area to be
treated. Never fire a laser pulse if you are unable to see the aiming
beam in the target area.
Always switch off the aiming beam when the instrument is not in
use.
Because the aiming beam follows the same optical path through the
beam delivery system as the therapy beam, it represents a good
method for checking that the beam delivery system is undamaged.
If the aiming beam spot at the distal end of the beam delivery
system is not visible, is weak or appears diffuse, it may indicate
damage to or improper function of the beam delivery system.
After use
Always use the key switch to switch the instrument off.
Always remove the key when the instrument is not in use.
Do not allow unauthorised personnel access to the key switch key.
Safe working order
This instrument is a high quality technical product. To ensure optimal
performance and that the instrument remains in safe working order,
the instrument must be inspected by a Carl Zeiss Meditec authorised
specialist at least once a year (see Safety checks).
Note for VISULAS YAG III Combi:
Warning
Optical fibres must not be bent sharply, kinked or
incorrectly fastened, as this may cause damage to the
instrument and/or injury to the patient or user.
