Assembly of the measuring unit on one side:
Start the measurement on the side where the inclination measurement
was within limits, i.e. where you assume there is no damage from
mechanical impacts caused by external forces.
Loosen the knurled fixing screw on the housing of the sickle-shaped
plate until the height-adjustment ruler (1952 006 640) can enter the
housing.
Warning: the small inner radius on the end of the support
should bear on the lower knurled screw. (Fig.3)
Align the housing of the measuring tool so that after assembly the
ruler will be exactly at 12 o'clock. (Fig.4)
Push the ruler's housing block (1952 006 643) with the slot on the
ruler-plate. Note: the hole of the housing block for the depth-setting
ruler should be facing to the left.
Insert the depth-setting ruler into the roller's housing hole.
Now push the pointer's housing block (1952 006 633) toward the
depth-setting ruler.
Fit the angular pointer (1952 006 632) into the pointer's housing
block.
The assembly of the measurement unit on the hub is finished. (Fig.5)
A) Checking the condition of the king pin
Below we have described two types of shock absorber fixings in
order to proceed with the next measurement.
Type 1. The shock absorber is secured to the king pin
with two screws. (Fig.6)
For Mac Pherson shock absorbers, use the reference plate-point
as well (1952 006 639). First, depending on threading and
pitch, you should screw the corresponding fixing nuts (1952
006 641/642/643/644) on the protruding thread of the shock
absorbers' original fixing bolts. (Fig.7) Now place the reference plate
with the slots on the fixing nuts and secure it with the supplied screws.
(Fig.8)
Warning: place the reference point as high as possible (up to
the end of the slots). In this manner, a large measurement area
is created, ensuring you will be able to secure the reference
point on the opposite side of the axle in exactly the same
position. Finally, secure the reference point exactly in the same
way on the opposite side of the axle.
