INTENDED USE
The Kit described in this manual is used to check the axles after
mechanical impacts caused by external forces such as, for example,
accidents, hitting curbs, driving over potholes, colliding against
objects, etc. The reference measurement consists in comparing the
measuring points on the side subjected to the aforesaid external
forces with the same measuring points of the axle on the opposite
side.
If there are significant differences, the axle's deformed parts must
be replaced. This kit is the necessary basis for measuring an axle to
professional standard.
In addition, the kit's laser components allow adjusting the axle
precisely, according to the setting of the toe-in measured before the
repair, after replacing steering elements such as tie-rod head, tie rod,
axle joint.
METHOD OF PREPARATION
A prerequisite for regular operation after a repair is to check if
tyres are wearing out irregularly and if the vehicle holds the road
properly. If there are no irregularities, thanks to this method you can
avoid having to carry out expensive axle measurements such as, for
example, when you only need to replace a worn out piece.
USE
1. CHECKING AXLE PARTS AFTER MECHANICAL
In
As you measure an axle or simply check the camber, if the measured
inclination deviates greatly from the values specified by the
manufacturer, you can assess (through axle reference measurements)
whether or not the cause lies in the deformation of individual pieces
as a result of mechanical impacts caused by external forces.
The foregoing deformation changes and worsens the car's camber,
resulting in road-holding problems, especially in cornering, and
abnormal wear of tyres.
The aforesaid check can also be carried out without an axle test
bench or lifting platform, by simply using a screw jack.
You need not remove the brake discs and the Mac-Pherson shock
absorber.
Securing the measuring
Lift the vehicle by means of the lifting platform or even only the
affected axle using a screw jack on both sides, and remove its
wheels. (Fig.1)
To assemble, use the most suitable M12 or M14 conical disc (1952
003 294/646). This will prevent damage to the sickle bow and
ensures the exact alignment with the hub. (Fig.2)
Warning: this kit does not replace the measurement of the
axle!
Always adhere to the vehicle manufacturer's
indications and repair instructions!
INTERVENTIONS CAUSED BY EXTERNAL FORCES
general:
unit:
Secure the sickle-shaped tool (1952 006 645)
either using the wheels' original bolts or the nuts
and/or the fastening bolts provided (1952 006
635/636/637/638) on the right and left axle hubs.
