Operation
Calculating the Density
Procedure
Read off the temperature .
t
Locate the density value ρ (fl) in the table using the temperature you have read
t
off .
Calculate the density using the following formula:
t
ρ =
W (a) and G in g; ρ (fl) in g/cm
5.3.2 Determining the Density of Solid Objects with a Density of Less Than
1 g/cm
3
There are two different methods for determining the density of solid objects with
a density of less than 1 g/cm
Method 1
Distilled water is still used as the buoyancy liquid . However, the iron pan is replaced
by the inverted sieve pan (sieve) .
To determine the buoyancy of the sample, first place it on the surface of the water
and then immerse it using the sieve which was previously removed .
It is also possible to use tweezers or similar to place the sample directly under the
sieve pan (without removing the sieve from the frame) .
If the buoyancy of the substance to be measured is greater than the weight of the
sieve, the weight of the sieve must be increased by adding additional weight to the
frame weighing pan .
