3.11.2 Manual adjustment procedure (by the Method of Ziegler and Nichols)
Stage 1: Set the integral action time (ti) and derivative action time (td) to "0". This prevents
these actions.
Stage 2: Enter an arbitrary proportional band value (Pb) and observe the result.
Stage 3: If this adjustment results in a large oscillation, increase Pb until a stable oscillation
is obtained. Let Pc be this proportional band value.
Stage 4: Measure the period of the oscillations. Let Tc be this period (in seconds).
Stage 5: Calculate the values of the following parameters and enter them:
- Proportional band (Pb) = 1.7 Pc
- Integral action time (Ti) = 0.5 Tc
- Derivative action time (Td) = 0.125 Tc.
