12.3.3 Damage caused by heat
or friction
This damage can be recognised by the shiny appearance
of the fibres of the sheath material and, in extreme cases,
by the fusion of the fibres, which indicates a weakening
of the core. As a result, round slings must be discarded
or checked and evaluated by an expert.

13. Storage

• The quality and functionality of the round
slings are retained by proper storage.
• Store round slings in a clean, dry and well-ventilated
place, protected against the effects of chemicals.
• The man-made fibres from which the round sling is
made are susceptible to deterioration of properties if
they are exposed to irradiation with ultraviolet light.
Round slings must not be exposed to direct sunlight
or sources of ultraviolet radiation or stored under their
influence.
• Store the round slings hanging on a frame designed
for this purpose. Do not store round slings lying on
the floor.
• If it is likely that the attachment devices with fittings will
not be used for some time, the metal fittings should be
cleaned, dried and protected against corrosion, e. g. by
lightly oiling them.

14. Disposal

• Round slings can be disposed of in the
household waste as long as the fabric is
not contaminated, e. g. by oils or fuels.
• Round slings must be disposed of as hazardous
waste if the fabric is contaminated by oils, fuels or
other chemicals.
• The metallic fittings must be recycled.
• The disposal must take place in accordance with
the national regulations applicable in the country in
which the round sling is disposed of.
