• The seam area must not be placed over the hook area,
other lifting devices or component edges. The seam
area must always be in the straight, free part between
the crane hook and the load.
• Prevent damage to the label by keeping the label away
from the load, hook and hitching.
8.4 Use of round slings as
lashing equipment
• If attachment devices like round slings are sometimes
used as lashing equipment, e. g. as head slings or as
connecting devices, it must be ensured that they are
suitable for these purposes with regard to their function
and load capacity.
• Attachment devices are marked with a working load
limit (WLL). It cannot usually be ruled out that lashing
equipment will be reused as an attachment device
afterwards. Therefore, it must be ensured that attach-
ment devices are also only loaded at the most up to
the marked WLL when used as lashing equipment.
• For that reason, regardless of the coefficients of
utilisation, the WLL is to be regarded as equivalent
to the LC when dimensioning the lashing.
• If the attachment device that was used as lashing
equipment is reused for lifting, it must always be
inspected for visible defects.
• When using round slings as lashing equipment, pay
attention to sharp edges and the D-to-d ratio.
• The hooking of, for example, wire claw hooks or
similar directly into the round sling must be checked
accordingly.

9. Daily inspections

The daily inspection is intended to detect
visible defects in the round sling and thus
to avoid unsafe conditions during use.
• The round sling must be inspected by the competent
person for visible damage before and after each use.
• The round sling must be discarded if any marking is
missing (see point 12).

• Never use a damaged round sling.
• Visible damage, holes or tears in the sheath, notched
or bent fittings, missing markings and other defects
must be reported directly and immediately to the ex-
pert. These round slings may only be used again after
documented re-approval by the expert.

10. Operation/use

The basis for safe operation is,
among other things, compliance
with the following points
• During the entire period of use, regular inspections
must be carried out to identify defects and damage
(see point 12.2).
• The round sling must be cleaned before the inspec-
tion to ensure that dirt is not concealing damage.
• The cleaning and inspection must also be carried out
for all fittings and accessories that are used together
with the round sling.
• If there are doubts as to its serviceability or if the
required marking has been lost or has become illegible,
the round sling must be taken out of service and
presented to the expert for testing.
• Perform a test lift before the actual operation. The
load may only be lifted to a height just above the
ground to check whether it is securely attached and
adopts the intended position. This is especially im-
portant for the „wrapped" rigging method or another
loose attachment in which the load is held by friction.
When lifting, check whether:
– the load has jammed or is stuck
– the load is suspended horizontally
– all legs are bearing the load evenly
If there is a risk of the load tipping over, it must be
set down and the round slings repositioned. The test
lift must be repeated until the stability of the load is
ensured.
