10 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING THE MOTOR

The following operations must only be performed by operators trained in the application of current laws
on safety in the workplace.
All work on the motor must be done with the motor shut down and disconnected
from the power supply (including any auxiliary equipment); take suitable
measures to protect against unintentional re-activation.
Do not open the enclosure in an atmosphere characterised by the presence of
explosive dust.
Do not hesitate to replace parts and components if they are not able to guarantee
safe and reliable operation.
Never improvise repairs.
The use of non-original spare parts not only voids the warranty but can
compromise the operation of the electric motor.
Replace the seal rings and bearings with new components of the same type as
those originally supplied in the consignment. Work must be done by qualified
technicians or an authorised service centre, capable of restoring the motor to its
original condition – refer to our technical service for details.
Do not work on the unit in such a way as to compromise its protection or safe
operation. Contact the BONFIGLIOLI customer service to ensure that all
maintenance and repairs are done correctly.
After completion of maintenance work on the motor, it must conform to the
specified execution and the enclosure's IP6X protection rating
Removing BN series motors:
1. Remove the motor from the machine or gear unit to which it is installed
2. Remove the fan cowl by undoing its fixing bolts
3. Remove the lock ring from the NDE end of the shaft and use an extractor to remove the cooling
fan, any transmission components and the key on the drive shaft
4. Undo the tie rods securing the front and rear shields
5. Remove the casings and extract the rotor taking care not to damage the windings
6. Remove the shaft bearings with an extractor, taking care not to damage the bearing seats or
seal rings
Removing M series motors:
1. If possible, position the gearmotor vertically with the motor pointing upwards to prevent lubricant
spills. If necessary, place a container under the gear unit to catch any spills.
2. Remove the motor together with the front casing securing it to the gear unit
3. Remove the fan cowl by undoing its fixing bolts
4. Remove the lock ring from the NDE end of the shaft and use an extractor to remove the cooling
fan
5. Remove the seal rings and the DE end circlip
6. Unscrew the tie rods securing the front casing to the rear casing and extract the stator taking
care not to damage the windings
7. Remove the internal circlip on the DE bearing
8. Remove the rotor complete with bearings
9. Remove the shaft bearings with an extractor, taking care not to damage the bearing seats or
seal rings.
Before reinstalling the motor, make sure that all dust, grease and other foreign matter have been
removed and check for any damage.
Reinstalling the motor:
1. Fit the bearings to the shaft with a press and drift applied to the internal race (do not apply
pressure to the external race), having first lubricated the seats on the shaft itself
2. M series motors only: Fit the DE casing to the rotor and secure the bearing with its circlips
must be unaltered.
