Plug the mains plug of the control unit into the socket. The
plant will initialise automatically.
Note: The mains power supply cable must be equipped with a
fault current circuit breaker.
During the first initialisation of the plant, the control unit re-
quests four basic settings. The control unit display shows a
query for
1. the language for the user prompting
2. the date and the time
3. the desired purification class C or D
4. the required nominal size of the plant.
By pressing the movement keys / direction keys, the desired
setting can be highlighted with a marking bar. Pressing the
enter key stores the selected setting in the system memory. As
soon as the 4 presettings have been made, the control unit
loads the program memory and automatically enters into ope-
rating mode.
The plant is now ready for operation.
Notes on sludge recirculation:
The recirculation of activated sludge is necessary to prevent
the formation of an excessively large quantity of activated
sludge. This excessive quantity of activated sludge could
lead to problems at the outlet of the sewage plant and have
an adverse effect on existing French drains. The recirculated
sludge is deposited in the primary sedimentation chamber
and is discharged with the next primary sludge disposal.
The sludge recirculation control can be set using the times
T20 & T21. After the plant has been put into operation, both
sludge recirculation systems should be disabled for the first

6.1 Operation

After commissioning of the plant, an active activated sludge
layer with microorganisms forms in the aeration chamber
after 3-6 months. It is not necessary to feed any microorga-
nisms to this plant. We however consider a feeding of ac-
tivated sludge from the nearest sewage treatment plant rea-
sonable. Important: Only feed activated sludge into the ae-
ration chamber!
To ensure a smooth operation, maintenance intervals have
to be strictly adhered to. The timely emptying of the prelimi-
nary sedimentation chamber must be ensured.
The operation of the small sewage treatment plant is fully
automatic. In detail, there are three phases, the "normal",
"economy" and "holiday" phase. These differ with regard to
their aeration time and quantity. The actual purification takes
place during the normal phase (6 hours).

3 to 5 months in order to guarantee faster establishment of
the biology. In addition, it makes sense to reduce the T20
setting ("Recirculation holiday phase") after every primary
sludge disposal (see item 6.4 Disposal) in order to avoid too
much activated sludge being discharged. For good purifying
results you should make sure that there is between 300 ml/l
and 600 ml/l activated sludge in the activated sludge tank,
depending on operating conditions. If this value should not
be achieved, reduce or increase the preset sludge recircu-
lation values. You will find the factory default settings on
page 121.

- Explaining the operator duties to the customer (disposal,
maintenance, operation of a small biological sewage treat-
ment plant, operations diary)
In case of an inadequate feeding of the plant (insufficient se-
wage inflow), it will automatically switch to the "economy
phase" (2 hours). In this phase, the aeration time is reduced
to the lower sewage quantity, to prevent "starving out" the
adapted microorganisms. If the plant remains in the "eco-
nomy phase" for a longer period of time (8 hours), it automa-
tically switches to the "holiday phase".
The "holiday phase" is characterised by an even lower sup-
ply of oxygen. Supplementary to that, a defined amount of
sludge is conveyed from the aeration chamber into the preli-
minary sedimentation at the end of the holiday phase. This
makes it possible to supply a certain amount of nutrients to
the aeration phase during the next feeding. This contributes
towards the preservation of the biology during a prolonged
standstill.
