The magneto is sensitive to humidity, in the event of rain, as in the event of leaks in the cooling system.
Do not try to protect the magneto with a plastic bag. The condensation would not take long to soak it.
In the event of an emergency (heavy rain or thunderstorm) ... a thin sheet cut from a beer can, and formed as
a protective screen will protect the bottom of the high voltage wires from splashing water.
Do not go on a rally without a hairdryer. So handy for bringing a wet magneto to life. (To be connected at the
hotel, not on the battery!)
If the engine is idling but refuses to ramp up try another magneto. A partially shorted armature may result in
insufficient ignition for normal use.
If you have removed the breaker, go slowly on the central fixing screw (conical) during reassembly. It breaks
easily.
1 f - Setting the angle transmission and Delco
If the 5 HP is fitted with an angle transmission - Place the igniter in its housing and orient the distributor box
(according to the switch finger), in order to choose the point ignition of cylinder N ° 1.
- Connect a pilot light between the igniter terminal and the earth.
- Turn the igniter body until the indicator light comes on. You are then at the exact ignition point and all that
remains is to block the igniter.
Maintenance: twice a year, check the distance between the screw contacts, which must be 0.4 mm. Remove the
finger from the switch and pour a few drops of oil into its housing.
Important: Switch off the ignition at each stop, otherwise the current will continue to supply the coil which will
heat up at the risk of deteriorating and draining the battery.

Opinion of the expert: '' C3 '': '' Concerning the bad hot start of an engine equipped with a magneto, the
problem is not due to a too tight adjustment of the valves, but to a conjunction of various phenomena:... bad
adjustment of the carburettor (inappropriate nozzle, fanciful jets, etc.), evaporation of gasoline by heat when
the engine is stopped, and undoubtedly a poor timing... All that to say, that precision is essential with a
magneto. You really have to have all the components on top in terms of tuning for it to work well with current
gasolines. Today, it works by systematically giving a bit of starter. Otherwise, you have to push !!! ''
