Installation

5.1

Mechanical installation

• Do not modify the screws and threaded pins.
Exception: Direct request to do so in these operating instructions.
5.1.1

Carrying out the product installation

Note
Heavy tensile loads may cause the screws in the cover to be pulled out.
• In case of heavy loads, ensure that the axis is not attached by the end cover alone.
If the axis is attached via the end cover, the cylinder barrel can become twisted if
there are torque loads around the longitudinal axis.
• Install the product so it is free of mechanical stress and distor
tion (evenness of bearing surface: ≤ 0.05 % of the stroke length;
however, this should not be greater than the corresponding
deflection of the drive axis).
For additional information è Local Festo service department.
• Position the product in such a way that its control sections are accessible (e.g. relubrication open
ings at the front or on top).
• Observe the required support spacing.
The diagrams (è Chapter 12 Characteristic curves) give the specified support spacings that result
dependent on the mounting position and payload. If the specified minimum distances are exceeded,
it is imperative to carry out an individual functional test.
Note
Unsuitable mounting techniques can significantly reduce the service life of the ELFA
guide axis.
• Use the same support spacing on the drive axis and on the guide axis.
By doing this you will avoid distortion caused by uneven deflections.
• Align the slide surfaces of both axes at the same level within the complete
positioning stroke.
• Make sure that the mounting components are outside the positioning range of the
slide.
• Align the guide axis parallel to the drive axis.
• Preferably implement the cushioning on the axis with the larger payload.
• Secure the ELFA guide axis in place as follows
(mounting accessories è www.festo.com/catalogue).
