Installation Site for the Booster
In order to ensure that the waste heat can be drawn off, position the booster in a place that is easily
accessible. The Z21

or places that are subject to solar radiation! This booster has been exclusively designed for use in dry
interiors; please do not use the Z21
and air fluctuations.
Connecting the Booster Power Supply
Switching power supply:
Voltage: 18 – 30 V DC
Output current:
min. 3.2 A for single booster
min. 6.2 A for dual booster
Only switching power supplies with a DC output are to be used for the Booster power supply. Under no
circumstances is the Z21
Use an own power supply for each of the boosters. It is otherwise easily possible that an impermissible short
circuit to frame can occur that could possibly destroy your Z21
We recommend the use of the ROCO switching power supply 10851 for the single booster and the switch-
ing power supply 10857 for the dual booster. Use the enclosed adapter cable to connect the ROCO switch-
ing power supply.
INFO: When connecting the booster to a white z21
the control centre is at least to be provided with power using the switching power supply 10851 as
there could otherwise be conflicts with the control centre short circuit detection. We recommend
that you also provide the power supply for the control centre using the switching power supply
10851 if you connect the booster to a white z21
as this would have the positive side effect that the control centre is also able to output the com-
plete 3 A. Generally speaking: the control centre should always have a higher supply voltage that
the directly adjacent booster sections.
Tipp: How to calculate the power consumption of a H0 system:
▪ stationary locomotives with lighting: approx. 100 mA
▪ travelling locomotives depending on the size and load: 300-600 mA
▪ illuminated carriage: approx. 30 mA per bulb (caution: considerable fluctuations!)
▪ Digital coupling or steam generator: approx. 100 mA
▪ Digital point machines or point decoders: approx. 700 mA reserve

-Boosters should therefore not be placed close to sources of heat such as radiators
-Boosters in environments that are subjected to heavy temperature

-Boosters to be operated on AC voltage such as with a standard transformer.
