On a paraglider the true profile is only properly maintained along the cell
walls. In between the cells the internal pressure causes the glider surfaces
SIGMA 4 to achieve top speeds that previously have only been the domain
of high performance gliders. The new profile was the subject of considerable
calculations and development. The final profile decided on is one that
conveys excellent handling, minimal overshoot tendency, and allows clean
entry to thermals. The areas around the leading edge are those that are
subject to the greatest stresses. It is for this reason and the reduction of
deformation that they are reinforced with Mylar. Every line attachment
point also has some Mylar reinforcement on the cell wall.
The numbers of main lines have been reduced in order to maximise the
reduction of drag. Four A lines, five B lines, four C lines, and three D lines
reflect this concept.
The use of long lines results in greater pendular stability whilst still providing
high manoeuvrability. The gliders movements are also well transferred to
the pilot. Very homogenous flight characteristics are the result. The SIGMA
4 uses 4 risers. It is only this way that the speed system can lower the angle
of attack without deforming the profile. A considerably improved polar
curve is the result.
As is the norm for all ADVANCE products, with the SIGMA 4 there is
great attention to detail:
- All the sewing is internal. This way the glider looks neat and no stitching
comes in contact with the ground.
- Only the best materials which have been thoroughly tested are used.
- The cutting and sewing of the leading and trailing edges is fine and exact
thereby maintaining optimal shape and resulting in the maximum flight
stability.

to bow out. The use of narrower cells is desirable to minimise
this effect, therefore the SIGMA 4 utilises intercells. Through
the use of our Diagonal stabilisers the intercells are precisely
positioned and maintained like a main cell resulting in a perfect
top surface. Thanks to these stabilisers, which originated from
the OMEGA 4, the SIGMA 4 has gained significant
performance. The use of a new speed system has allowed the
