MSA Latchways
®
Horizontal lifelines (HLLs) (defined as Type C anchor devices within EN
795:2012) are not covered by the PPE Regulation 2016/425, as defined by
the EU commission.
Within Germany DIBt has declared that, based on the European
Regulation 305/2011, HLLs may be certified as a construction product
and carry general building approval (Allgmeine Bauaufsichtliche
Zulassung) covering the fixings, base materials and installation of the
HLL. Product attaining abZ approval is indicated on the system label (
1 General information
Instructions shall be retained and provided to all Users of Latchways
MAPs in the language of the destination country, even when resold.
Failure to follow these instructions may cause serious injury or death.
2 Product specification
The Latchways MAP is designed to be used to restrain or arrest the fall of
one User in conjunction with an MSA Latchways HLL system. If a User were
to fall whilst connected to the HLL system the User will be subject to the
peak force of the associated energy absorbing lanyard or SRL.
This product has been tested in accordance with EN 795:2012 and TS
16415:2013 and where indicated on the system label the Construction
Products Regulation 305/2011.
3 Required equipment
• A full body harness with fall arrest attachment points which comply
with the appropriate national standards and regulations.
• A helmet with chin strap which complies with the appropriate national
standards and regulations.
• An energy absorbing lanyard or SRL which complies with the
appropriate national standards and regulations.
4 Requirements for use
• Before undertaking work at height and at regular intervals during the
period of work, a risk assessment shall be carried out to minimise both
the potential for falls and potential fall distance.

Ensure a rescue plan and the means to implement it are in place.
5 Pre-use checks
Always fully inspect the following:
Constant Force
post systems-Absorber deployment (Figure 1)

• If the Constant Force post exhibits signs of deployment then ensure the
system is repaired prior to use.
Engineered systems-Absorber deployment (Figure 2)
• An energy absorber will be located in the HLL system. If there is
evidence of deployment, do not use the system and ensure that the
system is repaired prior to use.
All systems
• Check for any corrosion or deformation
• Check that the Latchways MAP service date has not expired.
• Before use ensure that the Latchways HLL system is correctly labeled,
has not deployed and within it's service date. Slack cable shall be
considered as an indicator of deployment.
• Ensure that the system label conditions of use are complied with at all
times.
• Latchways TransFastener - Fully inspect to ensure that all moving parts
are present and working correctly. The starwheels shall spin true and
freely on their axle.
• Tenser disk (Figure 3) - Located at the end of HLL system. Ensure the
tenser disk rotates.
• Latchways Overhead MAPs - Ensure that the MAP runs freely on the
system.
6 User Instructions
• Connect the specified PPE to the applicable harness fall arrest
attachment point. Connect the energy absorbing lanyard via the
connector to the Latchways MAP.
