6.19 STORAGE ________________________________________________________________
General
1. Wash the machine thoroughly and lubricate. Repair
and paint damaged or exposed metal.
2. Inspect the machine, tighten all hardware, replace
worn or damaged components.
3. Clean the tires thoroughly and store the machine so
the load is off the tires. If machine is not on jack
stands, check tires at regular intervals and reinflate
as necessary.
4. Lightly lubricate chains using an aerosol chain lube
to prevent rust.
5. Keep the machine and all its accessories clean, dry
and protected from the elements during storage.
!
WARNING
Never store equipment inside a building with fuel in
the tank. An open flame or spark could ignite fuel or
fuel vapors.
Battery
1. Remove, clean and store battery in upright position in
a cool, dry place.
2. Check and recharge battery every 60 to 90 days
while in storage.
3. Store batteries in a cool, dry place. To reduce the
self discharge rate, room temperature should not be
above 27°C or fall below -7°C to prevent electrolyte
from freezing.
Engine
1. Diesel Engines - add a fuel conditioner or biocide to
prevent gelling or bacterial growth in fuel. See your
local fuel supplier.
Gasoline Engines - For engine protection Jacobsen
recommends the use of a fuel additive such as STA-
BIL. Mix additive following instructions on container.
Run engine for a short time to circulate additive
through carburetor.
Stop engine, close fuel valve and allow engine to
cool. If equipment is being stored inside or in an area
with poor ventilation, drain fuel from tank.
Note: Do not use fuel with ethanol during storage.
2. While engine is still warm drain oil from crankcase.
Refill with fresh oil. Section 6.4
3. Remove spark plugs and pour 30 ml of engine oil
4. Clean dirt from cylinders, cylinder head fins blower
After Storage
1. Check and reinstall battery
2. Check or service fuel filter and air cleaner.
3. Check oil level in the engine crankcase and
4. Fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel.
5. Make certain that the tires are properly inflated.
