6.5 AIR FILTER _______________________________________________________________

The gasoline powered Sand Scorpion™ uses a two
stage air filtration system. The first stage consists of a
heavy duty filter equipped with a filter indicator to alert
the operator when a filter change is required. The second
stage, mounted to the engine, includes a pleated paper
element and foam pre-cleaner. Diesel engines use only a
single stage heavy duty filter with indicator.
Heavy Duty Filter (Gasoline and Diesel engines)
Empty dust cup (D) daily. DO NOT remove element for
inspection or cleaning. Replace element only when red
band on filter indicator (C) becomes visible.
1. Remove element carefully and check for uneven dust
pattern around element which could indicate a leak
around gasket.
2. At this time check air intake hose (E) for damage
and tighten clamps. Clean inside of filter housing (F)
to remove dust. Do not allow dust to enter air intake.
3. Install new element making sure gasket seals
evenly. Install dust cap making sure it seals
completely around housing and the word "TOP" is at
the top.
4. Reset filter indicator (C) by pressing button on top.
Dual Element FIlter (Gasoline engines only)
Remove and service the foam pre-cleaner (B) every 25
hours. Replace if dirty or damaged.
To service pre-cleaner, wash in a liquid detergent and
water. Squeeze dry in a clean cloth. Saturate in clean
engine oil then squeeze out excess oil in a clean,
absorbent cloth.
Replace air cleaner cartridge (A) every 100 hours, more
often when operating in dusty conditions.
IMPORTANT: Gasket (G) must be installed properly on
housing to prevent unfiltered air from by-passing air
cleaner once cover is installed. Unfiltered air can quickly
damage internal engine components.
Note: Do not use petroleum solvents such as kerosene to
clean cartridge. Do not use pressurized air to clean
cartridge.
