Operating the appliance without the filter:
If you no longer want to use the filter, it is essential that the filter setting is pro-
grammed back to «No» again. This is important, as the descaling must be carried out
without the filter.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to «Setting» and press the knob to confirm.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to «Setting Filter» and press the knob to confirm.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to «Filter no» and press the knob to confirm.
• The display shows «Setting Filter».
• To return to the main menu press the left control knob (2).

Do not forget to set the water hardness (see chapter 4.2) and, if necessary, to
remove the filter from the tank.

4.2 Water hardness

Depending on the water hardness in your region, the appliance will have to be de -
scaled sooner or later. In order for the system to be able to indicate in good time
when descaling is necessary, you must enter the correct water hardness before using
the coffee machine for the first time.
You should first test the water with the enclosed test strips:
• Briefly dip the strips into the water and shake off excess water.
• You can read off the result after approx. one minute by counting the red dots.
• The different levels are divided as follows:
1 red dot 1 – 7 °dH / 1 – 12.6 °fH
2 red dots 8 – 14 °dH / 12.7 – 25.2 °fH = Level 2
3 red dots 15 – 21 °dH / 25.3 – 37.8 °fH = Level 3
4 red dots > 21 °dH / > 37.8 °fH

If no dots are red, set Level 1.
The basic factory setting is Level 3.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to «Setting» and press the knob to confirm.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to «Setting Water hard.» and press the knob to confirm.
• The current water hardness setting appears on the display,
• Press the right control knob (3). The levels setting starts to blink.
• Turn the right control knob (3) to the desired level and press the knob to confirm.
• Press the left control knob (2). The display shows «Setting Water hard.».
• From here you can change further settings by turning the right control knob (3) or
by pressing the left control knob (2) to return to the main menu.
