Turn the right control knob (3) to «Filter Yes».
•
Press the right control knob (3) to confirm the entry. «Screw in filter» appears in the
display.
•
Empty the water tank (10) and carefully screw the filter into the provided holder (15)
using the mounting tool (14).
•
Fill the tank with fresh water and put it back into the coffee machine.
•
Place a sufficiently large receptacle under the outlet (4) and press the right control
knob (3). The system will now be rinsed and «Filter is rinsed» appears on the dis-
play.
•
Wait until no more water comes out of the outlet and «Please rinse» appears on
the display.
•
Press the right control knob (3) again. The appliance rinses and is then ready for
operation.

The filter will remain effective for approx. 50 litres of water. The display will
indicate when the filter should be changed (see chapter 5.6).

Important: Even if this message does not appear, the filter must be changed
after two months at the latest, even if the machine has only been used a few
times.
Using the appliance without a filter:
If you want to operate the appliance without the filter, it is essential to set the filter set-
ting to «No». This is important, as the descaling will have to be carried out more often
without use of the filter, depending on the water hardness.
•
Turn the right control knob (3) to «Filter No».
•
Press the control knob to confirm the entry.
The setting for the water hardness appears in the display.
Setting the water hardness:
Depending on the water hardness in your region and whether you are using a filter
(see chapter 4.1) the appliance will have to be descaled sooner or later. In order for
the system to be able to indicate when descaling is necessary in good time, you must
enter the correct water hardness before using the coffee machine for the first time.
You should first test the water with the enclosed test strips:
•
Briefly dip the strips into the water and shake off excess water.
•
You can read off the result after approx. one minute by counting the red dots.
•
The different levels are divided as follows:
1 red dot 1 – 7 °dH / 1–12.6 °fH
2 red dots 8 – 14 °dH / 12.7–25.2 °fH = Level 2
3 red dots 15 – 21 °dH / 25.3–37.8 °fH = Level 3
4 red dots > 21 °dH / > 37.8 °fH

If no dots are red, set Level 1.
The factory setting is Level 3.
