It varies by a factor of 2.3 to 8, depending on the type of
wood.
• Three points must be observed when selecting
the measuring positions:
1. Always measure the moisture content of the measured
material at three positions in order to achieve sufficient
accuracy via the arithmetic mean.
2. Measurements should not be made on the narrow side,
because dry areas are located there.
3. Do not measure across splits, knots and resin packets
in the woods if possible.
• Oily and/or watery wood preservatives influence the
measurement result.
• If possible, do not measure wood whose temperature
is below -5 °C.
• Avoid static charging of the measured material by rubbing,
since otherwise a false measurement result will be obtained.
• If the moisture content of the wood is less than 10 %,
electrostatic forces may be generated on the test material
which falsify the measurement result to a great extent.
According to experience, this occurs at the outlet of veneer
drying plants. In any case the static charge should be
dissipated by means of appropriate earthing measures.
