The measurement of moisture in accordance with the resistance
principle is therefore an indirect method, since the moisture content
of the material being measured is deduced from its electrical con-
ductivity.
Procedural instructions for the measurement
of moisture in wood
The fact that the moisture content of the material being measured
is deduced from its electrical conductivity explains why, amongst
others, it is necessary to select the wood type code for the type of
wood being measured before each measurement. Not every type
of wood has the same conductivity, therefore the woods are
divided into certain classes (material codes)!
B - 11
Not only that, the conductivity of the wood is influenced by its tem-
perature. In order to be able to carry out precise measure-
ments of moisture, the temperature of the wood must be
taken into account. To this end, the measuring device has a tem-
perature compensation feature by means of which the temperature
of the wood being measured can be specified before the actual de-
termination of the moisture content of the wood. Depending on the
temperature value set, the resistance curves for the selected wood
types are then automatically adjusted.
Important: If the temperature of the wood is higher than the wood
temperature value set in the measuring device, the displayed
moisture content of the wood will be higher than the real value.
