If the building materials are not listed, adequate statements can usu-
ally be made via local comparative values. Thus, in the case of wa-
ter damage, the area of dampness can be isolated to the extent that
a comparative measurement on an apparently dry wall or floor sur-
face can be carried out as a basis for evaluation.
By means of the higher measured value of the area to be evaluated,
the spread of the area of dampness can be quite easily determined.
Comparative values for the evaluation
of water-damaged areas
In the event of water damage, an evaluation of the area to be dried
can be carried out by means of a resistance test. On the basis of
the practical moisture content and the varying marginal conditions

(see chapter 12), the necessity for technical drying can be judged
with the aid of the following table.
It is essential to note in this case that the measurement results are
only one component of a comprehensive damage diagnosis. The
experience of the evaluator and local conditions play just as im-
portant a part as the documentation of the measurement results. In
addition, the success of technical drying measures can be repre-
sented via the documentation.
