12. Disruptive influences

Like every technical measuring examination, this procedure is also
subject to the basic principle: "create constant measurement con-
ditions to minimise sources of error!" In order to achieve the most
precise measurement results possible, it is also important to be ac-
quainted with the generally valid disruptive influences. The follow-
ing instructions are derived from the above-described measurement
principle and the properties specific to the material:

Procedural instructions for the measurement
of moisture in wood
• Before making measurements on wood, the correct sensor
mode (mode 120) must be selected.
• The correct material number (wood type code) must be
selected before measuring.
• The instructions contained in DIN EN 13183-2 should be
complied with when making measurements on timber.
• Always position the measuring spikes at right angles to the
wood grain. The conductivity at right angles to the grain is
lower than along the grain.
