Owner's Guide
excessive force to insert . The grip on the insert should be flush
against the handpiece .
Check and verify that water is reaching the working end of the
insert tip by holding the handpiece over a sink or drain and
activating the unit . Adjust the water control knob to ensure
adequate flow is achieved for the selected power setting . A fine
mist of water should be coming from the scaler insert tip (Fig . 1 0) .
If water fails to flow properly, check the supply line filter
for clogging . Filters are disposable . Replace in case of
discoloration, visible debris in filter, or reduced water flow . Do
not attempt to unclog used filters .
To prevent accidental contact with the lips, tongue, and cheek, the
scaler insert should be activated just before contacting the tooth,
but after the insert has been placed in the patient' s mouth .
It is best to hold the insert in a pen grasp, using a very light
touch when scaling both supra and sub-gingivally . Consistent
pressure should be maintained while scaling - too much
pressure of the tip against the tooth surface will decrease the
effectiveness of the insert, as tip vibration is obstructed . If more
scaling power is required, the power level of the unit should be
adjusted accordingly .
Check the scaler insert and O-rings for wear prior to use on
each patient .
IV. Maintenance and Infection Control
Manufacturer: Dent4You
Devices: BioSonic US200 Base Unit, Ultrasonic Inserts, Handpiece Sheath .
These instructions only apply to BioSonic ultrasonic inserts manufactured by COLTENE . For all other inserts, always refer to the
manufacturer's instructions regarding maintenance and infection control procedures .

Method: Low-level disinfection, steam sterilization
Do not use cold sterilization, chemical disinfection, or other methods of sterilization, including
chemical vapor and dry heat since these methods may severely damage the insert or sheath and will
void the warranty .
Do not use chemical disinfectants prior to sterilization or rapid deterioration of the materials may occur .
Inspect base unit and cords . If any damage is observed do not continue use, and replace items
instead . Follow instructions under Section VII . Order Information
Follow insert manufacturer's instructions regarding tip wear and discontinue further reprocessing
and use of any inserts that do not meet the minimum requirements for tip wear .
Inspect sheath for cracks or other damage . If any damage is found, discard and use a new sheath .
At the end of a procedure, flush the ultrasonic insert by leaving the insert in the handpiece and
turning the water flow knob to produce a fine mist . Activate the water flow by depressing the
footswitch, as done during normal operation, for a minimum of 1 minute .
No additional treatment required at point of use .
Remove and rinse insert and sheath under running cold utility water to remove all visible debris .
Develop an operating sequence in scaling to ensure
thoroughness and to minimize adjustments in patient and/or
operator position .
E. Patient discomfort can be caused by:
Excessive pressure . Apply the side of the scaler tip gently to the
tooth surface using minimal pressure .
Incorrect tip positioning . Avoid contact of the scaler insert tip
and the tooth . (Fig . 11) Direct the tip away from root surfaces
and use side of scaler insert only . (Fig . 12)
Not keeping the tip in motion on tooth . The tip should always
be in motion during scaling . Use vertical, horizontal, or oblique
overlapping strokes to increase scaling efficiency and decrease
discomfort .
Excessive power . Use of scaler in Turbo Mode for an extended
period may lead to patient discomfort and tooth surface
defects .
If sensitivity persists, alternate treatment of sensitive areas
and less sensitive areas and/or decrease power setting where
possible .
F. Turn the unit OFF by rotating the power knob counterclock-
wise until a click is heard.
