The BioSonic US200 Ultrasonic Scaler is an enhanced third-
generation unit with an intuitive design and easy-to-use interface
which allows for precision, flexibility, and comfort .
Clinical Benefits of Scaling
Scaling is the process by which calculus is removed from the tooth
surface . This can be accomplished using either hand instruments
(such as hand scalers or curettes) or ultrasonic scalers . When using
ultrasonic scalers, high frequency waves generated within the
ultrasonic handpiece cause the tip of the insert to vibrate at 25,000 or
30,000 cycles per second . This action can remove calculus from tooth
surfaces more effectively and more rapidly than hand instruments .

II. Set Up
A. Placement
• Position the unit for easy access during patient treatment near
a wall receptacle and cold-water line while ensuring there is
enough space for the device to easily connect and disconnect
from the outlet and water lines . Ensure the unit is placed on a
solid flat surface, such as a countertop .
B. Water line connectors
• Incoming cold-water temperature should be between 5° C
and 25° C (41° - 77° F) . Supply line pressure to the unit must
be between a minimum of 25 psi (172 kPa/1 . 7 24 bar) and a
maximum of 50 psi (345 kPa/3 . 4 47 bar) .
• The use of an in-line filter to be placed between the main shut-
off valve and the unit is recommended . The main shut-off valve
is a part of the plumbing in the operatory .
• Although the unit has a filter, it is not intended to replace a filter
in the main line . The filter will capture smaller particles to further
prevent handpiece clogging .
• The dental water line should be thoroughly flushed prior to
connection to the unit .
• Only use waterline accessory provided with the unit or a
replacement waterline provided by COLTENE .
• Always utilize the water inline filter provided with the unit .
• Dent4You AG recommends the use of water that meets EPA
regulatory standards for drinking water (500 CFU/mL) for non-
surgical routine dental procedures . Before use of the BioSonic
US200 for the first time, an initial shock treatment should be
conducted and followed by water testing to verify acceptable
bacteria levels . These products should be used per specific
manufacturer's instructions .
C. Water supply line connection
• Insert open end of the water line tube into the push-in water
connector located on the rear of the unit . When pushing the water
line into the push-in connector, there will be a bit of resistance .
By pushing a little harder the line tubing will go past the internal
O-ring making a complete seal . Pull back on the water tubing to
ensure it is secure . (Fig . 1 & 2) . If necessary, to disconnect the water
line, hold the outer ring of the push-in water connector against
the unit and pull the tube from the fitting .
• Check to ensure in-line filter is tightly attached to both sections
of the tube .
• Connect end of tube with the quick-connect fitting to the office
cold water supply line .
• Open the main shut-off valve .
• Inspect the unit and all connections to make certain there are no
leaks, such as pooled water or dripping, prior to turning device
on and beginning procedure .
