country of use, periodical inspections can be more
frequent.
Regular inspections should be carried out by an
approved and qualified technician and in accordance
with the manufacturer's examination procedures as
laid down in the manual «Tractel
Procedures».
Verification of the legibility of the marking on the product
is an integral part of the periodical inspection.
Following the periodical inspection, a certificate of
return to service must issued by the approved and
competent technician who performed the periodical
inspection. This return to service must be recorded on
the inspection sheet in the middle of this manual. This
inspection sheet should be retained throughout the life
of the product until it is scrapped.
After stopping a fall, this product must be subject to
regular inspection as described in this manual. Any
textile components of the product must be replaced,
even if they show no visible defect.
10.1. Descender overhaul
DANGER: The descender must be overhauled
in the following cases:
1. Anomaly observed
(whether annual or not), or when any malfunction
or visible defective condition is observed.
2. The combined descent heights have reached
the limit indicated in the table below, whatever
the time taken to reach this combined value.
Limit of combined descent heights triggering mandatory overhaul of the
descender and replacement of the rope
Less than 100 kg
Greater than 100 kg and less
Load than 150 kg
Greater than 150 kg and less
than 225 kg
The descender must only be overhauled by a
person trained and qualified to perform maintenance
operations, by Tractel or by a Tractel
®
agent.
The rope must be replaced as soon as the descender
has reached the combined heights indicated in the table
above.

11. Lifespan

The Tractel textile PPE components such as

harnesses, lanyards, ropes and shock absorbers, the
Tractel mechanical PPE, such as stopcable™ and
®
stopfor™ fall arrest devices, the blocfor™ automatic
retraction fall arrest devices and Tractel
can be used, provided that counting from the date of
manufacture they are subject to:

– to normal use in accordance with the recommendations
of use in this manual.
– a periodical inspection which must be accomplished
at least once a year by an approved and competent
technician. At the end of this regular inspection,
it must be certified in writing that the PPE can be
returned to service.
– strict compliance with the storage and transport
conditions specified in this manual.

12. Disposal

When a system is finally withdrawn from service, all
components must be recycled with preliminary sorting
of components into metallic and synthetic materials.
These materials must be recycled by specialist bodies.
Upon withdrawal from service, disassembly and sorting
of materials must be carried out by duly authorised
personnel.

13. Product markings

13.1. Markings on derope™ descender
The labels used on the derope™ descenders are
shown in Figures 13a, 13b and 13c. These indicate:
a: trademark: Tractel .

b: product name.
c: reference standard followed by year of application.
d: product reference: ex 010042.
e: CE logo followed by number of notified
organization, article
control 0082.
f: year and week of manufacture.
g: serial number.
h: pictogram indicating that manual must be read
before use.
i: visual and functional check before use.
j: diameter of Tractel
®
k: operating temperature range.
l: utilization limit loads and lengths.
m: do not allow rope to rub against a sharp edge.
n: use for simple evacuation.
o: use for evacuation on inclined surface.
p: use for simple evacuation and rescue.
